The Chief Financial Officer is a member of the senior leadership team responsible for planning, controlling and directing the bank's operations of financial and fiscal management. Provides counsel to the executive team and Board of Directors regarding the bank's internal account and financial reporting policies, programs and procedures to ensure that they comply with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable banking regulations. The Chief Financial Officer will lead the Deposit and Loan Operations, Information Technology and the Corporate Service departments. Conducts analysis and prepares regular reports that depict the financial status of the bank to both internal parties, regulators, shareholders, and the SEC. These functions include establishing and maintaining the Company's accounting principles, practices, procedures, initiatives, and the accounting systems and control systems over financial reporting in accordance with requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Demonstrate and implement our Trusted Advisor strategy to our internal and external customers.
Responsible for monitoring and managing Bank's general ledger and all applicable subsidiary ledgers.
Accountable for implementation and monitoring of system of internal controls as they relate to financial reporting. Such controls include controls over systems that integrate with and into the Company's general ledger. Such controls include both those that prevent financial statement errors and those that detect financial statement errors.
Administers preparation of the operating budgets based on projected operating costs and the overall asset and liability management.
Oversees Deposit and Loan Operations, Information Technology, and the Corporate Service departments
Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, development personal growth opportunities, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
Reliable for the preparation of financial statements for all First Defiance entities, including preparation of consolidations. Such financial statements will be prepared no less frequently than monthly.
Responsible for the preparation of reports to the board of directors on a monthly basis. Such reports will present the financial condition of First Defiance and each separate entity in sufficient detail for the board and management to draw appropriate conclusions about the financial results, financial strengths or weaknesses, liquidity and overall success of the separate entities.
Oversees preparation of various internal, external and regulatory financial reports including: monthly board reports; quarterly call report, quarterly form 10-Q, annual forms 10-K
Responsible for preparation of all external financial reports, including those that are required by Regulatory Bodies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and any other entity that has regulatory authority over First Defiance or any of its subsidiaries.
Provides advice, performs research and renders opinions on the accounting ramifications of various transactions form a regulatory, tax and GAAP standpoint.
Responsible for the preparation of required Federal and State tax returns for all First Defiance entities.
Reviews monthly tax accruals for the bank, and reviews the quarterly tax estimates. Prepares the tax worksheet used by the external audit firm to comply the annual Federal and State income tax returns.
Accountable for coordination of the annual external audit of First Defiance Financial Corp.
Primary responsibility for preparation of annual budgets for each First Defiance entity as well as the preparation of a consolidated budget to be presented to the First Defiance board of directors for approval.
Dependable for development and maintenance of organizational and relationship profitability models.
Work with managers from throughout the company to provide financial information and reports that will assist those managers in performing their duties.
Represent the company externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, and the general public.
Performs other duties as required by CEO and Board of Directors.
Ability to live within the First Federal Bank of the Midwest footprint.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
